Abstract Expressionism:
Joan Mitchell Untitled 1958
In this work I see she uses the use of line and it is very much on the chaos side. I think it is chaos because the brush strokes are all over the place and I don't see how it is in anyway harmonic. I do think her use of repetitive line works fine with the lines she is using. Although it is very chaotic the use of colors brings the piece together.

Joan Mitchell Chord VII 1987
The element I believe she is using here is lines again we see the same chaotic look. Unlike the previous painting this one is even more on the contrast scale. It is almost overwhelming to see so much paint being used, the use of repetitive lines gives it this chaotic feeling.

Minimalism:

Carl Andre Pyramid 1959(destroyed) 1970 (remade)
In this one the artist is using shape, texture, and space. I think it is very harmonic in the way it is put together, everything seems to be thought out and put together in a pattern sort of way stacking each piece carefully one on top of the other to make it look like this. I also think the use of repetition is what helps this piece look so texture and also the space and how it is displayed.

Carl Andre Chain Well 1964
Here the element he is using is shape, and space as his dominant elements. This piece is also very harmonic because everything has a certain model it has to follow. Also we see the use of space being used in between each single block of wood. The use of repetition to me was well use because if he had just stack a bunch of wooden blocks randomly I wouldn't be able to see it as a Chain well like the title suggests.

Post Minimalism:
Rachel Whiteread Untitled (fire escape) 2002
In this sculpture piece we see the use of shape, line, and space. We see the use of repetitive lines from the stairs and also repetitive rectangles with in rectangles. I would say this piece is on the harmony side of the scale because it is so realistic and isn't put together in a chaotic way. The repetition of the lines as the stairs helps to identify this piece as a fire escape if it had only had maybe 4 or 5 stairs then we wouldn't be able to really identify it as a fire escape.

Rachel Whiteread Untitled (apartment) 2001

In this piece the use of point, line, shape, and space are use. It is on the monotony side of the scale because it reflects real life objects. She gives an apartment a more simple look without color or any decoration it becomes more of just rectangles and squares coming together to form shapes. The effect of repetition is use so that the audience can determine that the sculpture is the artist representation of an apartment.

Today:
Miss Van Untitled

The most obvious element I can see here is the use of line the single lines to symbolize the flow of her hair as well of the line on the skirt can also be seen. The painting seems very harmonic because all the colors seem to come together perfectly they don't clash with each other if they did it would be more chaotic. The effect of repetitive line is well use without it we wouldn't be able to tell that the main focus in this painting is the hair I also think that is why she added the different colors in the hair to make the hair the main focus and stand out from the dark color background.

Miss Van Untitled 2005

The element being use here is line and shape. Again we see the lines being use to create the structure and form of long flowing hair. Shape is being used to give the bunnies and the curves of her body some shape as well. The painting is also harmonic the soft pastel colors brings it together nicely and the repetition of the elements use also helps give an over all story to the piece.
